This 5th edition, under the theme “Dairy production: Support point for a profitable breeding”, gives pride of place to the dairy sector, to the detriment of the insecurity which remains the primary concern of the breeders.

” We chose this theme to make farmers understand that dairy processing is an important point in the development of livestock farming. Many trades revolve around milk production “,

says Bobbo Bakary, chairman of the organizing committee.

“Today, we are experiencing particularly difficult times, next to the kidnappings of which some of us are victims, there is especially the anarchic occupation and the drastic reduction of grazing spaces”,

says Hamadou Sadjo, breeder of Tignère.

Livestock farming in 7 regions of Cameroon occupies 30% of the peasant population. With 450 exhibitors, the 2018 cattle fair sees Nigeria’s participation alongside other Central African countries. For Kadri Aissatou, it is necessary to improve the value chains of the dairy system.

” We created a small milk production unit with a capacity of 600 liters a day. But for lack of a milk collection line, we can not run the machines that are stopped “,

Kadri says.

Presiding over the official ceremony, the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries emphasizes the support of the government :

“We will make available to breeders an area of 350,000 ha planned in the region of Adamawa to solve the problem, grazing problem. This perimeter will be dedicated exclusively to produce the fodder. You know a well-fed animal is able to defend itself against diseases “,

says Dr. Taïga.
