As part of the activities of its week of excellence, the Regional Hospital of Ngaoundere offers 8 days of free diabetes screening for children.
Diabetes not only in adults, even children are exposed to this disease. As part of the activities of the week of excellence set up by Dr. Mohamadou Hassimi, director of the Ngaoundéré regional hospital, several diseases are offered free of charge among which free diabetes screening for children from 0 to 18 years old, which takes place in the unit of management of diabetes in children. Diabetes in children is also possible,
“The child too can have diabetes. And diabetes in children is type 1 diabetes that is caused by the lack of insulin production in children. Therefore it manifests itself in intense thirst, chronic hunger, persistent fatigue, abdominal pain, vomiting and dizziness … just to name a few “,
says Tena Zenabou, Senior Nurse, Children’s Focal Point.
During this time of consultation, several other things accompany it :
“We take the weight of the children, we take the blood sugar and then consult the child. Usually this consultation costs 2000 francs, but when the hospital offers it for free, it is an opportunity to regulate the health of our children “,
adds the nurse.
This free screening is accompanied by the prescription of the products for cases detected sick. This act of generosity is the joy of parents informed of this activity.
“I personally did not know that the child could have diabetes, but when I heard on the radio that there was an activity as such to the regional hospital of Ngaoundéré, I also ran with my child to know his state of health. Thank you to the regional hospital of Ngaoundere for this act of charity”,
happily expresses Mamoudou Djika, father of a child.
“Likewise, I brought my child to be consulted, to see if she is healthy or not. As children often eat too much biscuit and candy, it is often these sweets that can eventually cause diabetes”,
adds a mother of a child. It is important to know that there are several other areas of screening during this so-called excellence week.
