On-board, regular passengers of railways and also those who wanted to experience the train for their first time and foremost testify the effectiveness of the new Express Train.
The new Express Train moved along the Yaounde – Douala railway lines with stops in four places : Edea, Eseka, Makak and Ngoumou.
The Express train’s journey is the first one since the 2016 Eseka train derailment. Indeed, the express train was interrupted on October 21, 2016, after the Eseka railway accident that claimed 79 lives and 600 injured.
Before it was officially relaunched, the new Express train had to be tested hence the inspection visit to Camrail’s headquarters in Douala, carried out by the Ministry of transport on April 29, 2021.
During this visit, the officials checked the 11 passenger carriages rehabilitated (to the tune of XAF1.1 billion). Later, they took part in the test drive of the intercity train.
The relaunch of that intercity train, which is a mass transport means, will substantially boost the transport in Cameroon.
The success of the relaunch of the Express Train gives a positive prospective on the renovation of the Transcam 2 between Yaounde and Ngaoundere.
